A 17-meter-long fishing vessel carrying 102 Syrian migrants including two women and children as young as four was intercepted off the Calabrian coast by tax police.
A plane of European Union border management agency Frontex coordinated by tax police in Taranto identified the vessel on Sunday some 170 miles off the Italian coast in international waters in front of Roccella Ionica, near Reggio Calabria, and Crotone. Tax police ships then intercepted the vessel in international waters during the night.
