Italian coastguard on Monday rescued 77 African migrants including eight women off the southernmost island of Lampedusa.
The coastguard responded to an SOS from a satellite phone from the migrants’ motorised rubber dinghy and intercepted the vessel some 40 nautical miles off the tiny island, which lies close to Tunisia.
The migrants said they were from Nigeria and Ghana. They were transferred to the port of Lampedusa, where 195 migrants arrived on Sunday…
