True to their pledge, Bulgarian activists and followers of the nationalist VMRO party “blocked” Sunday one of the country’s border checkpoints with Turkey as a sign of protest against the increasing Syrian refugee influx.
The nationalists have “blockaded” the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint with Turkey.
The Deputy Chairman of VMRO Angel Dzambazki is quoted as saying Turkey was deliberately transferring illegal immigrants to Bulgaria. He has stressed that 90 illegal immigrants cross the border daily, while security is provided by only 45 border police officers.
According to VMRO, people crossing the border are not Syrian asylum seekers, but criminals that would cause a new crime wave.
“Maritsa” highway is now blocked and a line of tractor trailers has begun to form. When asked how long this will last, the nationalists have replied: “Until the police arrive.”…
