Germany Refuses to Alleviate Migration Pressure on Italy

At a time when President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, has called for a fairer sharing of the burden of refugees in Europe, “Germany is refusing to welcome more refugees and take the pressure off Italy,” reports Die Welt Kompakt.

Only days after the disastrous shipwreck off Lampedusa, in which 235 migrants perished, Berlin has explained that “Germany has already provided a refuge for the maximum number of people, given its size and number of inhabitants.” In 2012, Germany welcomed 65,000 asylum seekers, while Italy took in 15,000, noted an Interior Ministry spokesman…
