Libyan naval forces in the last week intercepted hundreds of illegal African migrants on boats bound for Europe.
Forty-seven harragas from Niger, Ghana and Senegal, including five women, were rescued last Thursday (April 10th) by a tugboat from al-Bouri oilfield 100 nautical miles off shore, according to Mohamed al-Bati, the vice-chairman of marine operations at Tripoli seaport. One of the women was pregnant.
Al-Bati noted that authorities had prior information about three boats trying to set sail towards Europe from Libya, more precisely from Qarbuli, a suburb located east of Tripoli…
