“Greek Government Holds Emergency Holds Emergency Meeting Over Soaring Migrant Arrivals,” by Valentina Pop for the Wall Street Journal:
The Greek government held an emergency meeting Friday over the growing numbers of migrants arriving in the country as the European Union border agency Frontex said Greece has become the main point of entry for migrants and refugees into Europe.
According to fresh data released Friday by Frontex, nearly 50,000 migrants arrived in Greece in July, surpassing in a single month the number of people reaching the country in all of 2014….
Syrians and Afghans accounted for nine out of every 10 migrants detected at the Greek borders this year. In total, 130,500 migrants arrived in Greece from January until the end of July—a fivefold increase compared with the first seven months of 2014, according to Frontex.
