“34 Killed as Boat Capsizes Off Greek Island, Officials Say,” by Stelios Bouras for the Wall Street Journal:
At least 34 people drowned Sunday off the island of Farmakonisi in their attempt to enter Greece from Turkey, in what Greek authorities described as the deadliest accident they had seen since the refugee crisis began.
A wooden boat carrying 128 people capsized in very windy conditions off the southern Aegean island, located less than 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Turkey. Among the dead are four infants and 10 older children, a Greek coast guard official said.
“Our divers found seven people had been trapped in the boat’s cabin,” said the official. “We are continuing efforts to save these people.”
