The crisis in the Middle East and North Africa has led to a massive migration of Arabs and Africans across the Mediterranean and into Europe. It was described by the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi as the “Human Tsunami.” Inspired by this term and the events unfolding in the region, I have dedicated this website to focus on this phenomena in the area of Lampedusa, a small island off the coast of Italy, which is currently grappling with the massive influx of immigrants.
This website’s objective is to serve as a central educational hub for those who are genuinely interested understanding and seeking solutions for this crisis. I intend to post news items, videos and, of course, my analysis and reflections on the events occurring in the region. I am, indeed, also interested in exploring the current political and economic milieus of North Africa, Europe, and the broader Middle East, as that would be essential in understanding the current immigration waves Italy and other European countries are enduring. Last but not least, this site will also be shedding light on how these movements are also contributing to the wider debate on the role of Islam in Europe and Islamophobia.
It is worth mentioning that this website is not unique. There are also several other websites that have been established on this topic already. They are quite informative, and I will make note of them as I continue adding content to this site.
